My name is Lisa Brown, and I am currently entering my 30th year as a classroom teacher, the past 15 of which I've been at Paloma Valley High School. I've lived in Menifee for about 22 years with my husband and three children. I am a bit of an education nerd. I have an AA Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences, A BA degree in English, a California Teaching Credential, an MA in Education, with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, and an MA in English. If I could afford to pursue more degrees, I definitely would. I am currently teaching at both Paloma and at MSJC. This year, at Paloma, I am teaching Advanced English 2, AP English Literature, and Dual Enrollment (English 101). At MSJC, I am also teaching English 101 (Freshman Composition).
At MSJC, I have been teaching online for the past several years (since 2013), so I am comfortable with teaching in the online format. For our students who are not comfortable online, I will work to make our class as organized as possible so that students can easily access and work through the curriculum as we begin with remote learning. I know that this is a challenging time, but I believe that when we work together, we can accomplish anything. I am looking forward to showing the community why Paloma Valley High School students are the best!
This semester we will manage our online learning via Canvas. Each week students will be able to enter Canvas Learning Management System to view lecture videos, join live classes, view assignment instructions, submit assignments, and take quizzes. For my dual enrollment students, we will use the MSJC Canvas webpages.. For my Paloma students, to access our Canvas page, you can go to Classlink. When you get to classlink, select the Canvas Icon, and then select our class from the course tiles. Within Canvas, you will have a tutorial video posted to show you how to access everything that you need to get started. You should have received information on how to become an observer in your student's canvas courses. If you need more information about that, please contact the front office for more details.
Let's have a great year, Wildcats!
P.S. Starting on Monday, August 10, ALL students (even dual enrollment) must go to Paloma Valley Canvas pages to log in for further course directions.
I look forward to meeting you!
All students must check into Infinite Campus Daily for attendance during their assigned class period.
